| 30 June 2010

Grab your lawn chairs and get in the mood to hear the sweet, swinging sounds of the South Jackson Street Band as they play on the grounds of the South Jackson Civic Center, Friday, July 9 at 7 pm for the annual Ice Cream Social. Put on your dancing shoes and strut your stuff to the tunes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and others as the band gives a Moonlight Serenade to the audience.
Purity will be providing the ice cream for your enjoyment. Make your own ice cream sundaes with toppings, sprinkles, and nuts galore. For a fun summer evening, bring your family and a picnic and enjoy the music from a bygone era – music of the war years, music to fall in love to, music to hold your partner closely. Swing along with us as we make music on the lawn.
The children from the Summer Theatre Camp will be providing the entertainment at intermission. The Theatre Camp is meeting from 9 am to 12 pm June 28 through July 9. Art, crafts, folktales, theatre arts, and many other subjects are being enjoyed during the camp.
Tickets for the Ice Cream Social are $10 and can be purchased by calling 455-5321 or by coming by the Civic Center office, 404 Jackson Street. Office hours are 10 am to 5:30 pm.
Our next summer production will be a PACT presentation of “Once On This Island”, an adaptation of the book “My Love, My Love” by Rosa Guy who adapted the folktale of the “little mermaid.” Production dates are July 16, 17, and 18.
Season tickets for the South Jackson Civic Center’s Performing Arts Series will also be on sale.
