Duke wins WJHS spelling bee

The winners are as follows: Overall first-place winner:  9th grader Hannah Duke, Second-place winner:  7th grader Jay Patel, Third-place winner:  8th grader Devan Walker.
Two of the above three WJHS winners will advance to the county-wide 2010 Spelling Bee sponsored by the Coffee County School System. Contestants eligible to participate in the county, state, and national spelling bees must be in a grade no higher than eighth grade; therefore, WJHS 7th grader Jay Patel and 8th grader Devan Walker will advance to compete in the county-wide event to be held in the auditorium at Coffee County Central High School (CCCHS) on Thursday, February 4, 2010.
Registration for eligible contestants in the spelling bee will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the competition will begin at 6 p.m.
The spelling bee at WJHS is coordinated by Glenn Dillehay, 9th grade English I teacher, with assistance from Lauren Roberts and Karen Lewis, 8th and 7th grade language arts teachers, respectively.
Parents, family, and the public are invited to attend the county-wide competition at CCCHS on February 4.  The county-wide competition is coordinated by Brenda Brown of CCCHS.
