This is a simple process by which students and teachers participate in recycling, less waste goes to the landfills, and schools save significantly on their printing costs by receiving discounts toward the purchase of new ink and toner cartridges for their school. Hickerson Elementary is doing a super job!

They have recycled 48 cartridges since the beginning of this school year. To give an idea of the natural resources saved by their recycling, consider this: It takes three quarts of oil to produce one ink cartridge. So, just the staff and students at Hickerson prevented 36 gallons of oil from being unnecessarily extracted from the earth. Had their cartridges been thrown away instead of recycled, they each would have taken around 700 years to decompose in a landfill.
Families should keep in mind that they can also recycle empty cartridges from their home electronics through their children’s school cartridge recycling program. The schools will participate the participation, and the earth will appreciate the good stewardship!
