Local pastor George Kenney, Jr. who was shot to death Monday, will be buried today.
Authorities have arrested Kenney’s wife, Carolyn Kenney and step son, Jonathan Buckner on first degree murder charges, according to Graves.
The victim was found in his vehicle on Rifle Range Road on Arnold Engineering Development Center late Monday morning. The original call came in to the Coffee County communications center as a car accident.
However, upon checking the vehicle, police from AEDC and the Sheriff’s Department found that George Kenney had been shot.
Buckner later confessed to the shooting. Both he and Carolyn Kenney have been charged with first degree murder and are in the Coffee County Jail on a 200,000 bond. They appeared in Ssessions Court Thursday where they were assigned attorneys. They will appear again Oct. 1.
The latest killing marks the second murder in Coffee County in the past two weeks.
Either of the gunshots that hit George Kenney, Jr. were potentially fatal, according to a preliminary report from the State Medical Examiner. Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves says Kenney, age 68, was shot in the head and chest off Rifle Range Road on the Arnold Center Reservation. The victim’s wife, Carolyn Kenney and her son, Jonathan Buckner, have been charged with the man's murder. Buckner allegedly has confessed to shooting his step-father at the urging of his mother. Kenney was Pastor of the Bushy Branch House of Prayer. Funeral services for Kenney, a retired Carrier employee, are set for today at 1 p.m. at the Manchester Funeral Home.
