The community is invited to remember the first responders who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and honor local responders who serve the community every day at a 9-11 ceremony scheduled to begin at noon today on Manchester’s Courthouse Square. "White doves will be released at the end of the ceremony in honor of the first responders who gave their lives in the 2001 terror attacks, said ceremony coordinator Jimmy Taylor."
“There were a lot of good responders who stood up on that day,” Taylor said. “And we’ve got some first responders in our area, and we want to say thank you to all of them.”??Local veterans organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and their auxiliary organizations, as well as the Sons of the American Legion will honor outstanding first responders from local agencies. ??The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Manchester Fire Department, Manchester Police Department, Coffee County Rescue Squad and the county’s volunteer fire departments. New Union, Summitville, Hickerson Station and the Hillsboro volunteer fire departments are some of the organizations that have nominate members for special honors at today’s ceremony, Taylor said.
