From Staff ReportsThis year’s Groundhog Ball fundraiser for Keep Coffee County Beautiful (KCCB), which had originally been scheduled for Jan. 29 but was snowed out, has been rescheduled for Friday, March 19 at the Manchester/Coffee County Conference Center.
“The Groundhog Ball is our one annual fundraiser,” said Janet Galyen, director of Keep Coffee County Beautiful. “Success (of the ball) is desperately needed for the efficacy of our environmental programs and beautification projects within the community throughout the year.”
Among the upcoming KCCB projects the ball will help fund will be the distribution of 1,000 trees into the community; a beautification project on the grounds of South Jackson Civic Center and an Environmental Awareness Day scheduled for April 17 at the Coffee County Administrative Plaza which will highlight local businesses that offer environmental friendly products and services.
The group is also looking at a songbook recycling drive, its ongoing ink-and-toner recycling program in local schools, and a community-wide litter pickup event, Galyen said.
The ball will feature a Southwestern beef and chicken dinner and lots of great items in the silent auction and raffle (need not be present to win the raffle. Raffle tickets are $5 each).
A highlight of the event will be a performance from multi award-winning, internationally acclaimed magician, comedian, and motivational speaker Stephen Bargatze. Bargatze has performed for all ages for over 25 years for corporations such as Pepsi, Sprint, the Tennessee Titans, and at the largest magic convention in the world.
The event is fit for all ages, and business or casual dress appropriate. Tickets for the ball are $30 apiece. Call Galyen at 409-9571 for more information or to purchase tickets.
