Monday night Jan 23rd The Tullahoma Wildcats Quarterback Club held the 2011 Football Awards Banquet celebrating an 8 and 3 season with a playoff appearance. The awards went as follows:  The Ken McMurtry Booster Award winner; Russell Barnett The Players’ Awards ( voted on by players): Special Teams; Joseph Burke, Defensive Line; Alan Starks, Defensive Skill Player; Marcus White, Offensive Line; Luke Fredrick and Will Sharpton, Offensive Skill Player; Montrel Berry and Trey
Burks, Most Valuable Offensive Player; Jared Davis, Most Valuable Defensive Player; Cody Farr.

Raiders earn first district win, Lady Raiders fall

The Coffee County basketball team has shown great improvement this season; the one thing they hadn't done was win a District 6-3A contest. Tuesday night that all changed with a win over the visiting White County Warriors. With under a minute left the Raiders only led by one point, 47- 46 but Lance Crismond gave them a little more breathing
room with a lay-up with just 0:46 second remaining. Kyle Kirby and Jerett Zeigler put the final nails in the win with one freethrow each for a 51-46 final.

CHAMPIONS College Street, Hillsboro take top hoops honors

College Street won the girls championship: Julia Duncan, Morgan Jones, Keyleigh Alford, Layla Geogre, Kristen Wray,
Danielle Baker, Chloe Haggard, Sophia Tant, Kara Roper, Hayley Miller, Ashley Starks and Allison Williams

Last Saturday for the elementary league basketball championship games – both would follow the same story line
going in; Hillsboro versus a Manchester school. The girl’s game pitted College Street against Hillsboro while Westwood
represented the boys against Hillsboro.

There would not be a sweep, either for Hillsboro or the city schools. In girl’s action, College Street withstood the early Hillsboro onslaught and dominated the second half to pick up a 32-23 win.

Fighting Corner 1/21/12

Before we get into the UFC on FX event – I want to talk about the recent reports on fighter pay in the UFC. ESPN aired a segment of Outside the Lines last weekend; bashing the UFC for the amounts they pay fighters. In the full interview, which ESPN would not air, Zuffa co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta all but proved the ESPN report wrong – even going as far as pointing out how much more the UFC pays fighters than ESPN. UFC fighters aren’t making boxing money but they aren’t starving either.
