With the Major League tournament set to get underway Tuesday, all the brackets have yet to be set due to makeup games but first place People’s Bank knows what it has to do.
People’s (14-2), the first place team in the AL, will begin the tournament against Bush Insurance (3-13), the last place team in the NL. The two teams have met twice this year with People’s Bank easily winning both meetings 14-4 and 17-1.
“We have told the kids all season long that you have to take it one game at a time. Past results don’t matter; whether you beat them by one or ten, that games is done and it doesn’t mean anything. That is the approach that we have tried to take all year, looking forward the whole time,” said People’s manager John Duncan.
People’s does have one more regular season game left against Shelter Insurance, but it will not affect the AL standings no matter the outcome.
“It would be a big boost (to beat People’s) but when you are a playing to win with little or no pitching it is hard,” said Shelter Insurance manager Chris Swan.
“I think getting a win in the last game will build momentum going into the tournament and cap-off a good season by winning that final game. They key is, there is no pressure on us. Win or lose, we already know where we are in the standings, we are just going to go out and play and have fun,” added Duncan.
Shelter Insurance pitcher Kolter Swan leads the Major League with 71 strikeouts in 34 innings.
Shelter, the last place team in the AL will have to play the first place team in the NL Tuesday night which will either be Lions Club or Fann's Auto. Those two teams play Saturday to decide the NL winner. Shelter split in the regular season with Fann’s and swept Lions Club.
The Minor League tournament will begin today.
Rose Hill finished with the best record in Minor League at 11-1 and in first place in the American League. John Roberts Toyota finished in first place in the NL with a 11-2 record.
The games played today will be against the bottom seeded teams in the bracket. Game one will be between All Creatures and Lemon’s Construction at 5 on the T-ball field. Game two will be Jones Cabinets versus Captain D’s at 7 on the T-ball field.
The Coach Pitch tournament began Thursday night with four games as of press time the only score to be reported was Oak Restaurant advancing to the second round after beating Traders Bank 24-14.
First National Bank was the only team to go undefeated in Coach Pitch with a record of 16-0.
The T-Ball tournament will get underway Monday with Serv pro in first place in the NL at 8-0 and Henley’s Storage in the first on the AL side at 4-5.
