The Coffee County boys basketball team did not have the season it would have liked, first year head coach Scott Givens is the first to admit that. Givens does feel positive about the future of the program, however, while not shying away from talking about the disappointment of a 4-22 season.
“Certainly disappointing when it comes down to the wins and losses. We felt like we had plenty of opportunities to improve on our record and we came up short.”
“We had some other younger guys Hunter Byers, Jared Ziegler, Jonathan Henegar and Kyle Kirby all gave us some good minutes this year. We played a lot of young players this year and I hope that will help us next year,” said Givens. “Our one district win was against the eventual district champion but we just didn’t play consistent enough through the season and that is what we will work for as a team to be more consistent next year.”
"Krys Renfrow will be tough to replace there is no doubt about that. That is why we will need more consistent play from our guys in the future. I was proud of Krys and the leadership he showed, he brought it every single night, great attitude and leadership. Cory Keeling also gave us some great minutes and showed a lot of leadership after he came back from his injury."
Renfrow and Tyler Clayborne were both named All-District 6-3A.
"I was proud of Tyler Clayborne and how he progressed, he is going to be a key for us next season," added Givens
